Our caterpillars arrived today! We are so excited to learn about the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly!
They are so small! Check out our log to see how quickly they will grow.
They are going to eat the food, that is brown and mushy on the bottom of the cup, to nourish their bodies and help them grow!

We Skyped with a school from Pennsylvania about our chick hatching project. We told them about our butterfly project.. we hope they tune in and watch.

Oh my, what is all of that web-like goop? Is there something wrong with our Painted Lady Butterflies?
No- that goop is good! The gray-white is a webbing that the caterpillars create in their environment.
We are noticing our caterpillars have more than doubled in size! 2 of them have made there way to the top. Will they form their chrysalis there? We believe yes.
